converting HDMI on a laptop to a composite connection on a standard definition TV?
Okay i'm trying to display my laptop screen on my standard definition TV to watch movies and i know that HDMI to composite connection cables don't exist but i found an apple adapter that converts DVI to a composite video input. From there i would buy a standard HDMI female to DVI female and connect it up to my laptop. The two products can be found here: http://www.amazon.com/Female-DVI-D-single-female-adapter/dp/B000Q6REMK and here: http://store.apple.com/us/product/M9267G/A. Will this work? Or will i be wasting my time and money on this? and if does work would the video quality be any good?
They actually do make an HDMI to composite adapter. Unfortunately they are quite expensive.

As for the products that you pointed out, That particular DVI to composite connector will work with Mac Pro (with ATI X1900 XT) MacBook Pro, Mac mini and Power Mac G5 systems only. If you have one of these devices, then you are in the clear. However, I have to assume you don't have one of these, otherwise you wouldn't be needing the other adapter. So no, those two cables together will not work.
And even if they did, DVI doesn't support audio, so what you would have is a TV playing a movie with no sound.
Unfortunately, there really is no inexpensive solution for the set-up you are looking for. At least not yet. The problem is that not only is converting a digital signal to an analog signal fairly complicated, but it's not something many people look to do. Most people want to find ways to upgrade their signal, not downgrade it. So unfortunately, you're stuck with some high dollar solutions.
