Panasonic DVD-S52 hdmi dvd player?
Morning to all. I have a Sony 32" S series LCD TV & planned to purchase one Panasonic DVD-S52 player. Please advise: 1) if the HDMI format of the Panasonic S52 is compatible with that of Sony's. 2) if the 5.1 Ch output of the S52 is functioning simultaniously with the HDMI connected to TV (as I presently don't have a HDMI capable AV amplifier).

The term HDMI refers to the type of connection, it is the same regardless of brand, so a HDMI cable will connect your dvd to your tv. It is only for video, though, it does the same job as the yellow plug on your standard a/v cables. For the audio, you need to check your receiver to see if it has coaxial or optical for it's digital audio in. Most newer receivers should have both, as most newer dvd players also have both, but it is safer to check to make sure you can connect. If the connections are compatible, you will need to get a decent HDMI cable (around $80) and a good optical or coaxial cable, whichever one you need. I recommend Monster for the audio, they are expensive, but you are spending enough on the home theater components, why skimp with the cables? Good cables help you get the most out of your components. Also make sure the dvd is progressive scan, there is a noticeable difference in picture between that and interlaced. 1080i is good, 720p is better, and 1080p is best, although it might be a little overkill, as normal dvd's are not recorded in true high def. You should be very pleased with the 720p.
