Is it better to get a surround sound system with blu ray built in or not?
I am looking at surround sound systems, and wanted to know if it is better to get a system that has a blu-ray player built in but no hdmi inputs or one with hdmi inputs but no blu ray player.
I don't have to worry about juggling remotes because I'll be using bravia sync.
Is it necessary to use the reciever as an audio switcher or is it ok to use the TV as one and connect it to the surround system with an optical digital audio out?
The once with blu ray built in is cheaper.
Better to get a separate unit. Generally they are of better quality, and if one of the components fail (either the Blu-Ray player or the receiver/amplifier), it is easier to replace. Not to mention the separate standalone unit will likely have many more inputs for connecting other devices.
