HP Pavilion Elite HPE-480t PC

And is that graphics card okay?

Also, on:

http://www.cpubenchmark.net/high_end_cpus.html

it says that the i7-870 has better performance.

Their gaming performance is identical. Not even 1fps difference, because they both come with a budget graphics card (Radeon HD 5570) that bottlenecks both processors!

Your maximum fps is limited by how fast that $75 graphics card can output pixels, not the difference between the processors. Both of those Core i7 CPUs can effortlessly keep up with graphics cards costing 4-5 times as much as the 5570!

While the i7-870 is slightly faster, that difference is meaningless when you're stuck behind a bottleneck. Even a Core i5 750 with a $150 graphics card like a GTS 450 or Radeon 5770 gets over double the fps of either of those Core i7 units with a 5570.

You could easily upgrade either machine- just install a better graphics card and power supply. The factory power supplies in brand name machines like Dell, HP, Sony etc are usually 300 watts, which isn't enough to support any serious gaming cards. Since the first computer costs $80 less, it's the more attractive starting point.

But you'd be better off (and save money) by purchasing a machine that's designed for better gaming performance in the first place. Such as this:
