in order to play blue-ray movies on my ps3 do i have to use a hdmi cable or can i use a componet av cable?

All right here is the deal. If you want true digital HD than you have to get HDMI. If you want HD but just don't have the money then you need Component Cables. The cables that they give you with the ps3 are AV Cables which are not HD at all. HDMI costs about $60.00. Components cost about $25.00. And AV (the ones you have) are about $5.00. I would start out with Component cables which you can get at Best Buy.
