What is the best type of coaxial cable for my HD TV, for use with regular cable, no high def?
I know gold plated cables are supposed to be good, but I am looking for the best type of cable. No HDMI, a cable that hooks from my wall into my TV. Thanks.
To be honest, the cable used for the very short run from your wall outlet to your TV--maybe 6 to 12 feet at the most--isn't going to matter all that much. The cheaper, older coaxial cable is RG-59, and it's quite inferior to the much better RG-6 for long runs, like from a rooftop antenna. But for just a few feet, you're not going to see any difference in your reception. The same is true of the gold-plated (or gold-appearing) fittings. They look pretty, but the electrons riding the cable can't see them and wouldn't care if they did.
In practical terms, this means that any short connecting cable with pre-installed fittings that you pick up for the purpose in the electrical department of your hardware store or home improvement center is going to be fine. You could get the same thing at an electronics store, but you'll be paying more.
