DVI to HDMI converter vs. Component?
My Aunt just bought a Sony Bravia 1080p HDTV:
http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&productId=8198552921665117947
and she asked me what I personally thought would be better, component or HDMI. My answer, was of course HDMI, but then she threw in a twist.... her cable box (Verizon FIOS) does not have an HDMI jack, only a DVI jack and a component jack. So her new dilemma was to either have DVI converted to HDMI through a converter, or just have component cables. I told her I really had no idea as to whether the quality in HDMI would be as good if it started out as a DVI signal. We both don't know the answer.... so I figured I would ask the people of the world and see if anyone is wiser than I am at this matter.
So my question to you guys is: What would yield better picture quality and sound, DVI to HDMI (through converter) or Component cables?
Thanks.
The specifications sheet in the link you provided says this TV has a DVI input. DVI and HDMI are basically the same, with just a different connector (and perhaps some digital rights differences? -- can't remember).
So there would appear to be no need for any conversion; just a DVI/DVI cable.
