Can the WD TV Media player use one of thos cheap HDMI > Component video cables to output 1080i on my older tv?
The WD TV media player only comes with HDMI and composite, however my tv is only component.
if i buy one of these cheap hdmi > component video cables (not the expensive RGB converters) will it work on the device (with full 1080i support?) i was told that wd tv does not output with HDCP, and it can work fine with ordinary DVI-I monitors, Was also told that it outputs YCbCr thru the HDMI port. Has anyone tried this??
here is the cable i'm talking about

thanks
Most likely not. That sort of cord is proprietary for a particular device that supports analog component through the HDMI port, and I don't think there is a standard for it. The instructions would have to specifically state is supports such a cable.
A universal HDMI to component adapter would have a DAC and be more expensive.
What you should do is look for a similar device (to the WD Media player) that has component out.
