why coat end cables with gold?

I dont understand why companies like Monster cable coats the connectors of its cables such as a HDMI cable with gold when copper is more conductive.

There is a difference between gold and other connectors.

The difference is that gold will not corrode. If you live in a coastal or high humidity location the connection points between your cables, displays and sources will corrode over time if you use anything but gold. The corrosion that builds up is not as conductive as the base metal and will result in a degradation of the signal. This is particularly so if you have a lot of connections or are running cables longer than 15 feet.

You can never improve your digital signal with an expensive cable but using an inferior cable can certainly degrade your signal. You will see this in pixellation and sparkles on the display. These will be more noticeable on scenes with dark backgrounds.
When you are buying a cable ensure that you buy from a reputable source and that the cable is marked with the HDMI logo and the version number 1.3 (do not worry about whether it is a, b or c as these are testing specs only)
