HDMI to Component Ps3 Cable converter not recognized!?
so i bought this cable on ebay, i have a 42" plasma... and it has component inputs (not hdmi inputs) and i want to use the hdmi to component cable so that it looks better, it looks bad on rca... they sent me 2 because the first one i thought it didnt work... i held the power button when i turned it on, so that it would recognize the new input... it doesnt even recognize my laptop. what am i doing wrong?
How do you expect this to work?
HDMI = digital video
Component = analog video
Digital & analog signals cannot connect with a simple cable. You need a converter box to convert the signal from digital to analog if you want to connect the together. The only format HDMI will connect to with just a simple cable is DVI, since DVI is the only format that can accept the signals from an HDMI.
What's even more mind-boggling is why you're trying to play Component video from HDMI. You do realize that they make Componet cables specifically for the PS3? They connect to the A/V Multiport just like the regular RCA Composite cables do. They shouldn't be more than $20 at your local discount store retailer. Hell, you could even use the PS2 version of the cables if you wanted to.
