DirecTV Setup Question?
My condo building is converting from RCN Cable to DirecTV. Here is the wiring setup:
Incoming Building Wire into my bedroom closet. From there, coax wire splits to Living Room and the bedroom.
I have been told by a DirecTV installer that it is it possible to achieve the following. What equipment would I need, where would I get it?
Signal comes through the building wire, into my distribution closet, through (Living Room - Dist. Closet) Coax Wire to a H20 HD Receiver in my living room. Connect this receiver with HDMI to my HDTV.
Using some type of "Diplexer", send the receiver's output signal BACK through the same (Living Room - Dist. Closet) Coax Wire to the distribution closet, connect it to the bedroom wire, and get the same (non-HD) picture in the bedroom.
Let me know if any point needs clarification. What equipment would I need? I don't want to pay them the $100 to come do it for me if I can figure out how to do it myself! Thank you
This is a guess, but I think this will work as you stated. The duplexer is simply a splitter used in reverse. At your H20, put a splitter and connect the output of the splitter to the input of the H20 and to the RF output of the H20. The sat. signal and TV RF are at different frequencies, (I think) so it can both be on the same cable. In the bedroom, simply connect the cable to the TV RF input.
