Upgrade Hard Drive or buy 360 Slim?
I have the Xbox 360 Pro edition with 20GB HDD and HDMI. It has never RRoD. My hard drive is almost full and I was planning on buying at least a 120 GB hard drive. I was also considering getting the WiFI adapter (though i'm not sure as ethernet is more reliable). Anyway, It will cost a pretty penny to buy these upgrades and I was wondering what the Xbox community thought. Is it worth to pay for external upgrades or should I sell it and go for the new Slim version?
@ David P, how is it cheap? A microsoft HDD is about 100$ for the 120GB and 90$ for the WiFi adapter. You can't buy third party HDD for the system because the new software update won't work on it. And does the external WiFi adapter work well? It takes one of you few USB spots as well, is that annoying?
Ok. Marvin C. have you not done any research? I dont buy a new system without looking up a lot about it and talking to people. I have talked with Microsoft techs that are my friends. They did not fix the RROD problem, but the new Xbox cannot get the "RROD" they took the red lights that show that your Xbox has it off. They were losing money from it being covered by warranty. Without the lights, it is now not covered by warranty. You have to pay to have it fixed. They did not change the chips so the same problem still happens. Everyone is saying its fixed, but it isnt. Ive done research. Other than a small extra fan and optional wifi for an extra $100, the new Xbox is the exact same.
If I were you, I would keep the same 360 and buy the upgrades. That is what I did. It comes out a good bit cheaper that way too.
Hope this helps.
