32" 120hz HDTV recommendation and HDMI/VGA/DVI input lag difference?
I'm thinking about getting a 32" HDTV with 120hz refresh rate to use as my computer monitor, there is this LG 32' with 2.7ms input lag. So my question is does using DVI / VGA / HDMI result a different input lag >2.7ms? Also the TV will remain 120hz video refresh rate ragardless if game mode or tv mode? cause i've head some tv won't reach native 120hz in game mode.
And any brand, model of HDTV recommendation would be nice
so i did a little more research, which i found that 60hz and 120hz can't hardly be noticed, motion blur is a fuzzy concept that manufactures and retailers use to mislead consumers. as if said what is the difference between ViewSonic VX2265wm monitor120hz 3ms, and other the LG HDTV i mentioned? do they calculate their response time based on different grey-to-grey cycle? and will it be necessary to get a 120hz HDTV?
I got an LG 32LH40 and like it. I use DVI to HDMI to connect my older (2004) PC (the TV has 4 HDMI inputs) and I like it. I also have LG BluRay player with streaming Netflix HD. I have never noticed any difference between a digital connection or VGA, except that DVI or HDMI are more automatic for sizing, centering, and color, because the display more completely communicates its capabilities to the video source. It works as well in 1080p with my VGA connected laptop.
Video input is limited to 60 Hz in high resolution modes. As mentioned the 120 Hz is something you can set to interpolate intermediate frames to artificially sharpen motion blur in the source, or change the cadence to smooth out stutter in 24 Hz movie content. But that would not be something used in gaming if you have hardware capable of 60 fps at 1080p. Even my old 1280x1024 HDTV Ready monitor with 25 ms LCD response time had no noticeable blur with a high contrast game at 60 fps (Quake3 Arena with bright objects on black background). Motion blur is more a matter of the source (film or older video cameras) being unable to freeze fast motion. A video game writes discrete pixels, so unless your hardware cannot keep up calculating entire images 60 times per second, lag or blur should not be an issue. Even 30 fps would be as good as a movie (film is 24 fps).
