Setting up first LCD TV, questions...(please read description)?
I am setting up my first LCD TV for my family in our basement. I have not bought the TV yet, but I know the specs of what I want (what size, resolution, refresh rate, etc.) My questions, however, are about:
-I have a standard DVD player, should I get an up-converting unit (will it make a difference?)
-How many HDMI ports do I need?
-What do I need HDMI for?
-Any brand of HDMI cables you prefer?
-How does (standard, from cable box) TV look on it?
-Is it worth it to switch to a HD cable box
-Any concerns or comments about mounts for the TV?
-If I have multiple electronics (Wii, PS2, DVD, etc.) should I get a hub to plug them all into?
Any answers, comments or concerns will help me out greatly, thanks!
An upconverting player may make an improvement. Plan on using it with HDMI.
Otherwise you should get a Progressive Scan DVD player, if you don't yet have one.
I have an upconverting player on a 32" 720P native set, and I cannot tell the difference between component at 480p and HDMI at 720p.
I would recommend at least three HDMI ports. Everything has them these days.
Some people don't really like it, or don't or have their set incorrectly set up.
SD through is fine for me, although I do notice the difference.
Yes an HD box is worth it. Including receiving HD channels in ID, it can make some SD channels look better.
I wouldn't worry about mounts, so long as you have good structure to mount it to, and get the right one for your set.
You shouldn't get a hub so long as you get a TV with all the inputs you need.
