I have all of my equipment connected to my TV via hdmi, if I use 5.1 speakers with my tv will it sound better?
I have a ps3, hd freesat and computer attatched to my TV via hdmi. If I plug a 5.1 speaker system that simultes surround sound, (it's only a small rooom) will it greatly inprove the sound over my TV speakers? (which are excellent)
As a rule, any peripheral speaker system will sound better than the speakers from your tv, because it creates an actual sound field.
5.1 doesn't simulate surround sound. It is surround sound.
