Can I install 2T SATA HDD into a new PS3?
Hello,
I will buy a new PS3 and want to know if I can install 2T or 1.5T HDD (SATA?? 7200rpm) into it.
Please let me know.
There are 2 ways you can set in a hdd into the ps3, and this is only the internal way so not the usb bc you can only use that to mainly store the media.
The first way is the cleanest and recommended way where you buy a 2.5 inch 5400 rpm (some say that 7200 overheat), and it will fit there perfekt bc that's what its made for. But one disadvantage is that the current size of 2.5 inch hdd are 1 TB or 1000 GB, to put it in perspective that's 213 dvd`s or 1429 cd`s so its allot.
The second way is abit messy and maybe not clean but with this you can get double storage. But it involves getting a desktop hdd with a sata cable and connecting the connectors on both the ps3 and hdd. But you also need a standalone power brick for the hdd. Bc the ps3 usb power ports will not hold. And you need a housing so that its harder to damage and it looks better. You should watch this youtube video which should give you a idea. http://2.ly/ch4m
But I swapped the original 80 gb hdd with a 500 gb which is more than enough for me.
