Need Help Setting Up Surround Sound Via HDMI?
hi
ive read that you can only get true HD sound via HDMI and not optical because of the bandwith.
Currently i have a
Samsung 46 7020 LED TV
Xbox 360
Popcorn Hour
Sony DAV-DZ260 ( not connected via HDMI, its only used for the optical sound source)
all connected via HDMI for the picture buit for sound they are all connected via optical cables, all running into a optical switch so i have to turn the switch everytime i change the source.
So what i need help in doing is getting my Sound through the HDMI aswell as my picture and do away with the optical.
How would i do this? Do i need a seperate HDMI receiver or is they away to acheive this this the equipment i already have?
any help would be brill.
cheers
Do you have a blu-ray player? That is currently the only format capable of using DTS HD Master Audio and Dolby TrueHD. Without a blu-ray player, the optical audio connections are already providing you with the best audio you can get. If you do have a blu-ray player, or plan to get one, this is what you'll need to utilize the HD audio formats:
A receiver that has HDMI inputs AND decodes the HD audio formats
OR
A blu-ray player that decodes the HD audio formats AND has mulitichannel analog outputs
AND
A receiver with multichannel analog inputs
You will of course need all the cables to hook it up as well.
Good luck, and enjoy!
